FOOD: Dec. 16th, Winter Solstice Feast
Winter Solstice Feast 2011is a party and benefit for Bushwick Farmers’ Market and “the other neat projects of EcoStation:NY” will take place on Friday, December 16 atBrooklyn Fire Proof‘s massive Nut Roaster Studio.
Local restaurants, some of whom regularly serve produce grown by students at Bushwick Campus Farm (another EcoStation project), are preparing food for the event, as is the extended “Bushwick Farmers’ Market family.”
The growing list of restaurants participatingincludes Roberta’s, Northeast Kingdom, Café Ghia, Arancini Bros, Wyckoff Starr, and Verde Coal Oven. Sixpoint Craft Ales is also supporting the event with a donation of their locally-brewed beer.
The banquet table’s centerpiece will be a whole roasted pig, courtesy of Lawrence Knapp, Executive Chef of The Hurricane Club in Manhattan.
Winter Solstice Feast 2011 will feature performances by Reverend Billy and The Stop Shopping Gospel Choir, as well as Handstand Andy and The Handsome Man Band, fronted by Bushwick Farmers’ Market “manager and lead guitarist,” Travis Tench.
The fundraiser will also feature a silent auction, featuring goods and services donated by area businesses, artists, and craftspeople.
Admission is a suggested donation of $20, however, in the spirit of community, no one will be turned away.
EcoStation:NY’s projects include Bushwick Farmers’ Market,Bushwick Campus Farm & Greenhouse, Farm-in-the-Sky at Brooklyn Fire Proof, and the upcoming vegetable oil- and solar-powered Bushwick Farmers’ Market Green Machine, a mobile market unit which will allow EcoStation to reach further into “food deserts” in need of better access to nutritious, locally- and sustainably-grown food.
